Letters to Mildred; From a WWII Pilot in the CBE by Susan Vitek - Softcover
Letters to Mildred from a WWII Pilot in the CBI is a vivid and personal World War II story as seen through the eyes of a newly enlisted young college teenage who wrote these letters to his girlfriend. Their romance developed over the same time that Pete was trained as a pilot and deployed by the United States Army Air corps. Overseas, stationed in India and China, he told his true-life story of flying, living in billets and tents, and the tolls of war with heart rending losses. Receiving letters written by Mildred became his lifeline.
The letters are the essence of this book. They are exactly quoted just as they were written more than seventy-five years ago. The originals are handwritten on nearly transparent, thin, fragile airmail paper. the letters are authentic, even with inappropriate manners of speech and frequent misspellings and grammatical errors.
This book includes the collection of World War II love letters saved by Mildred Elizabeth Uhl from Howard Peter Fauerby and a few letters from friends and family set within a historical presentation to place them in context from 1942 through 1945.
